With today’s economic climate being as it is the prospect of moving home is more daunting than ever before. When it comes to DIY, I've had to become creative with fasteners, velcro, and other fixings to make my own updates around the home. The average stay at home time for a family is around 14 and a half years, almost all of your children’s childhood. With this in mind it is vital that your home provides a happy and usable environment for your family. As families grow many couples find that their ‘perfect family home’ just does not provide what is necessary for their family’s needs. This is exactly what happened to our family. Our initial thoughts were to move to a larger property but with the thought of the headaches and heart aches that the upheaval would cause our family we looked into alternative options. We decided to extend our home to allow it to grow around our expanding family and to enable us to customise it to our individual needs. This provides us with a way of meeting each of our children’s requirements in a more personal way than if we simply moved into a larger home. Although the project is set to take 6 months and a lot of money, it is still a much cheaper and easier option than moving. The additional extension will add two bedrooms, an additional bathroom and a larger, much needed, family space for the children to use. I would strongly recommend anybody who may be looking into the possibility of moving home to seek the advice of your local building contractors and architects to see whether extending you home would provide you with a better alternative as it has for our family. |
